When David Adams was 19 and opened his home improvement business in Ridgefield, Design Builders & Remodeling, he had no idea how much it would grow. Today the business, which recently moved to Ethan Allen Highway in Ridgefield, is 6,000 square feet and employs 15 people.

All companies in the business—Design Builders & Remodeling, Bailey Kitchens, and New England Window & Exterior Company—are now under one roof. Prior to moving to its current location, Bailey Kitchens was on Bailey Avenue in Ridgefield, and the others were on Danbury Road in Ridgefield.

"We now have everything you would need to remodel your home, all in one place," said Adams, 47, of Newtown. Adams is a certified graduate remodeler through the National Association of Home Builders.

Services that Design Builders & Remodeling provide involve cabinetry, countertops, tile, flooring, plumbing fixtures, windows, doors, siding, and roofing. There are architectural kitchen and interior designers on staff.

The business provides a complimentary preliminary sketch of clients' homes, a realistic budget, and a detailed discussion of the entire design-build process.

Design Builders & Remodeling has been named "Remodeler of the Year" by the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Fairfield County.

Remodeling Magazine named Design Builders & Remodeling one of the top 50 remodelers in the U.S.

According to Adams, the transitional style of architecture is trending. "This style combines traditional architecture with a more modern look. It's a simple, sleeker style," he said.

He added "more and more people are choosing quartz for their countertops, over granite or stone products. Quartz requires less maintenance than the others do," he said.

Customer Patricia Snow of Ridgefield, who used Design Builders & Remodeling this fall to put an addition on her home, said, "When they were in my house, they were trustworthy, diligent, and timely. Their work is meticulous and they have a great eye for detail. Snow increased the size of her kitchen and mudroom, and had an addition put on for a home office.

"Their design specialist spent many hours finding just the right cabinet hardware to match my island and my perimeter cabinetry," Snow added.

"Our philosophy is to make the designing and building process as enjoyable and as simple as possible. Our clients get to work with the same people all the way through," Adams said. "We hold our clients' hands throughout the entire process. We help them pull it all together."
